On Monday, Maharashtra reported the highest number of fresh COVID-19 cases in the country, taking the uncertain No 1 position from Kerala almost after 42 days. The state documented 3,365 new cases which were higher than Kerala’s count of 2,884 on Monday. The last time Maharashtra logged the highest daily case count was on 4th January.
India had recorded 9,093 new coronavirus cases that were higher than the total count in the last two Mondays, 8,584 and 8,712 cases, respectively. The count of new cases drops every Monday due to the lower testing and staff shortages on the weekend.
This Monday’s cases were less than 4.9 lakh tests and were the lowest number of daily tests that were conducted in India in the last six months. It was the highest number of cases reported in Maharashtra on a Monday since 30th November and also reported 23 deaths. The total caseload as of now is 20,67,643 and the count is 51,552. The state has reported more than 3,000 daily cases since the last six days in a row. India also reported 82 deaths on Monday, taking the total count to 1,55,844. The country’s caseload is crawling closer to the 11 million mark at 10,925,567.
